Celebrating the sparkling wines of Melgaço and the Monção-Melgaço sub-region
The Festa do Espumante celebrates the sparkling wines of the Monção-Melgaço sub-region, which has become one of Portugal’s most exciting terroirs for quality espumante production. Held over three days in late November at Largo do Mercado, the 2025 edition brings together 17 sparkling wine producers from the sub-region, nine local product producers, and two restaurants offering special menus.
The program features commented tastings led by sommeliers, show cookings with wine harmonizations, regional product tastings, live music, and a dining area. The festival serves as a showcase for Alvarinho-based sparkling wines, which benefit from the cool Atlantic-influenced climate and granite soils unique to this small corner of Northern Portugal. Free admission makes it accessible to all.
