A perfect day combining a riverside run along the Ecovia do Minho, crossing the border to soak in free thermal pools in Ourense (Galicia, Spain), and finishing with a traditional slow-cooked cabrito (goat) dinner back in Monção.
Start at the riverside promenade (Passeio Fluvial) in Monção. The path begins right along the Minho river, well-marked and easy to find from the town centre.
Run along the Ecovia do Minho — a flat riverside path following the Minho river toward Melgaço. A mix of compact earth and paved sections, shaded by trees. Out-and-back ~10 km or shorter depending on how you feel. The river views are stunning and the path is peaceful, especially early.
Drive across the border to Ourense, Galicia (~70 km, ~1 hour). Visit Termas de Outariz — free outdoor thermal pools along the Miño river with multiple pools at different temperatures. Soak your legs, relax, take your time. Alternative: Pozas de A Chavasqueira, also free and equally beautiful.
Back in Monção, dinner at Solar do Alvarinho — traditional cabrito assado no forno (slow-roasted kid goat), a Minho classic. Pair with a crisp Alvarinho wine from the region. A perfect end to a day well spent.
